Healthy Practices:

Correct Sleep Posture

The position you sleep in matters more than most people realise. Poor sleep posture can put unnecessary strain on your spine, shoulders and hips — often without you even noticing until you wake up stiff or sore. Getting your alignment right at night can make a real difference to how your body feels during the day.

Here are two positions Sammy recommends for a healthier night’s sleep.

Option 1:

On Your Back

Lie in a straight position, flat on your back, with your arms resting by your side. This position helps distribute your body weight evenly and keeps your spine in a neutral, supported alignment throughout the night.

Option 2:

On Your Side

Lie on your side with your knees together, and place a small pillow between your knees. Keep your legs straight or slightly bent — this helps take pressure off the lower back and keeps the spine properly aligned rather than twisted. To stop yourself rolling forward onto your stomach overnight, place a small pillow between your arms as well; this also gives your shoulders some extra support.

Why It Matters

Small adjustments like these can ease pressure on the lower back, reduce morning stiffness, and support the results of your remedial massage treatment between sessions.

If you’re waking up with ongoing discomfort despite good sleep posture, it’s worth chatting to Sammy about what else might be contributing.
